CompareRewards.com: Doing Your Holiday Shopping Online Could Result in Huge Savings and Rebates
Baton Rouge, LA (PRWEB) October 29, 2007 -- Making your holiday shopping purchases online through a rewards program could help the average American save $100 or more on their holiday purchases this year.
According its fourth annual survey of rebate rates at various online shopping rewards programs, consumer advocacy site CompareRewards.com found that shoppers could receive a rebate on their purchases of up to 30% per order. This is in addition to coupon codes provided by the rewards program which can be combined with the rebate for extra savings.
With the average American poised to spend $900 on holiday purchases, according to a recent Gallup poll, this could amount to substantial savings.
Becky Ford of CompareRewards.com gives an example. "Suppose you want to send someone flowers. Several rewards programs offer a coupon code good for 20% off a purchase at Hallmark Flowers. In addition, you can earn up to 10% cash back, depending on which rewards program you use -- so a $100 flower purchase, minus the coupon code and the cash back, will end up costing $72."
Knowing which rewards program to use can be tricky business, says Ford. "Some rewards programs pay your rebate in terms of percentage cash back, which is the easiest to understand. Others pay you in points per dollar, and they don't make it easy for you to calculate what that's really worth."
Ford's analysis of 21 rewards programs and their rates for over 150 online merchants showed that the rewards programs with the highest shopping rebates, of the 21 such programs reviewed, were BondRewards.com, Jellyfish.com, and Extrabux.com.
"In general, the programs that pay in terms of percentage cash back outperformed those that pay your shopping rewards in points-per-dollar," Ford said. "Knowing which rewards program to shop through can mean the difference between getting 3% cash back for your purchase, and getting 30%. But either way, shopping through any online rewards program and getting some kind of rebate back after Christmas is better than shopping in-store and getting no rebate at all."
