This access and convenience makes internet shopping attractive to people who have difficulty accessing real world shops such as the disabled, mothers with young children and even shift workers or those people who work long hours.

Many people who live in rural or remote areas also use internet shopping; this is so they can access a much wider variety of goods than they can in their own communities without the need to travel to a major centre. Many people also shop online to avoid weather extremes such as extreme heat or cold that they would have to deal with traveling to a real world store. Finally there are many real bargains to be found on the internet as the sellers do not need to rent or pay a mortgage on a shop, with all of the associated costs such as electricity, insurance, and sales staff. The savings in these costs is often reflected in the price of buying an item online versus in the real world.

The amount of competition on the internet also leads to some fantastic bargains such as some of the discounted airfare tickets available online.

The only basic requirement necessary to be able to shop online is internet access.
